***More Volunteers Needed***

For 2005, the PHS needs to increase the hours that it is open. We need more docents (tour guide in a museum) in order to accomplish this goal. Docents are available to museum visitors questions, to tell the story of the museum and campus buildings and assist in genealogy research. The docent position is a wonderful way to meet visitors from all over the country. There will be a training session. If you are interested please contact Ruth Hotaling, 315-682-9066.

Garden work is needed April though October. This is a great opportunity for all gardeners and would-be gardeners to help out. These jobs generally require little experience and a lot of enthusiasm. The PHS has instituted a "pick-a-place" program for individuals or groups to adopt the care of a part of the museum campus. Areas such as the small garden under the main sign, pruning the small privet hedge, annual care of the peonies, the possibilities abound! Please contact  Gail Moreland, 315-682-5954

Special Events volunteers are needed for many jobs including photography, set up and clean up, postering, ticket takers, etc. Please contact
Nancy Edwards
, 315-662-3668.

As you might expect, bakers are always needed to help non-profit organizations. This includes refreshments for public education programs, election day bake sales, campus workdays and the list goes on and on. If you can help out, please contact   Karen Tomak, 315-682-7408

Office tasks are always on the to-do list. These range from helping out with newsletter mailings to transcribing old diaries. Computer knowledge is not needed.  Please contact  any of the ladies listed above!

Volunteering is a win/win situation. Your museum gets a workforce without depleting a very tight budget and you as a volunteer wins by helping a community resource. Other advantges are the networking with other friendly and generous people. Volunteering can often lead to a new career!

Volunteers are the life-blood of the PHS. Because we are a small, locally focused group we can offer volunteers an opportunity to be of meaningful importance in their own community for as long or short a period of time as they chose. Consider that ten volunteers working together can do in one hour what might take one volunteer ten hours to do. If you cannot give any time right now, please think of the PHS in the future.
